We're Still Singing

Houston Virtual Choir is a new ministry born out of St. Stephen’s UMC and another example of God being in the neighborhood, not the building.

We began the journey of Houston Virtual Choir in the middle of March 2020, when it was foreseeable that we would not have in person worship on Easter. It seemed unthinkable not to sing together for an entire month and the idea of the virtual choir was born. Regular church folk from 9 partner churches across the greater Houston area, Huntingtown MD and Washington State participate in two weekly rehearsals which are the heart piece of this new worship community.

We have come to know one another, we pray together and for each other, we deepen our relationship with God through singing and we have become better singers while doing it. Members of this community have called the choir a life-line and a new creation in times of hardship. Many of the choir members also participate in the recording process of anthems and hymns which are streamed in worship on Sunday mornings across the land but not everyone does and it is not required.

We want to invite all, no matter where you are, to join us in song and worship to God every Tuesday at noon and Thursday at 7. Have no fear – we have a bag of tricks to help you with signing on, getting the music, engaging with part dominant recordings, and so much more. We even do voice clinics.

We could have focused on all the things that we cannot do but God led us into a new creation and it has brought joy in the morning.
